In an effort to decongest the city, Nairobi County Government has set out plans to scrap the popular Khoja bus terminus.

“The plan is to restore sanity on our roads and avert snarl-ups especially from vehicles accessing the city through the Globe Roundabout onto the Khoja/old Nation stage. We will also be create walkways in the streets within the CBD,” said the county’s Roads and Transport chief officer Frederick Karanja on Wednesday.

The terminus will be moved to the land beneath the Globe Cinema overpass.

“We are planning to get rid of the Khoja/Old Nation terminus and move all matatus to the empty land beneath the Globe roundabout overpass, which has been acting as a holding ground for the buses,” he informed.

However, Mr. Karanja said the move is subject to consultations with relevant stakeholders before implementation.

“The move will be implemented soon and we are currently engaging stake holders on the issue,” he said.

Vehicles operating from the lower Kabete, Village Market, Thika Road, Muchatha and Banana routes will be affected by the move once implemented.

Mr. Karanja’s statement statement followed concerns by Members of County Assembly of the executive’s plan to manage congestion in the CBD.

In addition, the chief officer announced that City Hall was targeting to acquire Kenya Railways land located at Ngara to be used as holding grounds for matatus. He urged the county transport committee to initiate talks with the Railway operators in order to fast track the process.
