On the 28th of October 2018, Kenya Airways launched its maiden direct flight from Nairobi to New York, the first of its kind in the region. However, due to low demand during the winter season the carrier was forced to reschedule flights to only five days a week from the initial seven.

Nevertheless, there is hope for travelers as they can now access flights every day of the week starting from June 2019. The announcement came from Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO Sebastian Mikosz who also said that since the New York route is strategic for the national carrier, they remain committed to it as they prepare for the high-flying 2019 summer season.

This change in the flight schedule came as a result of the activation of a code sharing agreement between Kenya Airways and Delta Airlines that will enable seamless and efficient travel for both business and leisure travelers.

Travelers will now enjoy better connectivity in 11 US and 4 Canadian cities as they connect from New York through the direct flight from Nairobi.

This agreement forms a part of Kenya Airways’ broader strategy to establish its presence and widen connectivity across the continent thus encouraging opportunities for trade, tourism and investment.
