The Energy Regulatory Commission on Sunday, April 14 announced an increase in the prices of fuel products to take effect from April 15 2019 to May 14, 2019. As a result, motorists and households will now have to dig deeper into their pockets to accommodate these changes. This, the commission noted, came as a by-product of adjustments in global fuel prices.

According to ERC’s fuel price review, the price of Super Petrol rises by Sh5.25 per litre, Diesel by Sh.5.25 per litre and Kerosene by Sh2.76 per litre.

The energy regulator explains that the major factor prompting the hike in fuel prices has been as a consequence of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increasing by 9.14% from US$ 568.55 per ton in February 2019 to US$ 620.54 per ton in March 2019.

In Mombasa fuel will retail at Sh103.98, Sh99.51 and Sh99.60 for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene respectively. Meanwhile, in Nairobi, the new prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene are now Sh106.60, Sh102.13 and Sh102.22 respectively. In Kisumu, fuel will retail at Sh103.98, Sh99.51 and Sh99.60 respectively for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene.

The pump prices are inclusive of 8 per cent VAT in line with the provisions of the Finance Act, 2018.

Compared to last month’s review, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene in Nairobi retailed at Sh101.35, Sh96.61 and Sh99.46 respectively.
