After campus, most graduates rush to draft their CVs with updated information ready to hunt for that dream job. Having been a student for 16+ years, the school system teaches us that the quickest way to earn a living and settle down in life is acquire a job, leaving behind the idea of starting a business.

However, there is no easy way to life. While successfully securing a good job has numerous advantages, one gets agitated when the hustles gets long and it appears as one has come to dead end. For example, a friend of mine made 300 job applications before getting his first job interview. For those who may not want to go through this, it may be a great idea to venture into business and become entrepreneurial.

Being entrepreneurial means having a state of mind which orientates your conduct towards entrepreneurship activities and outcomes.

Entrepreneurship implies that we are all entrepreneurs if we set our minds to it, why then would you deny yourself the opportunity to better your living standards when you have the power to do so?

When your classmates are all getting employed and you are not, when it seems like your applications are not getting any response, it is not time to despair but to get back to your strategy table and draft that idea that is about to set off your career.

You can grow your mind into becoming an entrepreneur by doing the following;

  1. Being susceptible to change

You need to be able to accept positive change. Successful entrepreneurs are open to changes that will help them improve their businesses. Do not be quick to turn down an idea before giving it a thought or sometimes a try. You may never know the outcome of an undertaken risk before you take it, which is why it is called a risk. Evaluate the risk and it might just be the change you need.

  1. Networking

Form bonds with people who may be of help to you. Interact with people who can advise you, mentor you or challenge you to be a better individual. The people you interact with may invest in your idea or give you referrals that will assist in developing the idea and eventually growing your business.

  1. Be self-motivated

If you are not able to push yourself, you may have to wait for someone to do so and sadly that will never happen. You have gone through school or perhaps achieved one or two things in your life, that is force enough to have you do something about your ‘unemployed status’. Do not be discouraged but be optimistic because that will help you to be resilient and achieve positive results.

  1. Develop a positive attitude

Barack Obama developed the “YES WE CAN” slogan and he ended up making history.

We are our own enemies and can hinder ourselves from achievements we would have otherwise made if we believed in ourselves. Believe in yourself, develop a YES YOU CAN attitude and be sure that you are headed for great things.

  1. Be focused

Set your mind to what adds value to your journey. Set goals and ensure you work towards them. Do not let petty issues swerve you from your purpose. The race does not stop until you get to the finish line.

Being entrepreneurial means being different in all you do, and being the first in doing ordinary things setting yourself apart from the rest. It is about being more resourceful than anyone you know.
