Technology is an integral part in today’s society. Everyone wants to be up to date. And I am pretty sure everyone will agree with me that it came along to ‘save’ humanity. This is to say that, even in the movie film industry it is absolutely essential.  Take a walk with me as I take you through the journey of how technology is incorporated in this industry.

Movies? Series? What comes into mind when these words are mentioned? Well, I am pretty sure everyone enjoys a movie or series at their free time. It is a good preference over a social event for most of us. But wait a minute? How about we go on a business venture and in fact make money from internet. This is cool. Let me show you how.

If you are an entrepreneur, and you are wondering which business to venture in, maybe this is a good opportunity for you. But before you start a movie business, you need to have a clear business plan. Like where you will source your movies, what equipment you will need, whom you will sell to (target market), how you will market yourself for customers to know you exist.

Total capital required for a startup would be between Ksh. 160,000- 200,000. And this applies if you do not have any equipment at the moment. But if you already have some of the essential equipment like computer(s), printer and a table to work on, then this will greatly reduce your capital. Renting a shop goes for around Ksh. 10,000- 50,000 depending on the location. But of course you should choose a place where most people can be able to access, especially the youth.

First things first, you want to start well, right? Then do not take shortcuts.  It is important that you have a license from the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) and the County Government to start selling movies. Ensure you have these to avoid your equipment being confiscated for lack of compliance. Once you pay for the KFCB license, you will receive movie rating stickers this will give you a list of banned movies that you should not sell.

Internet comes in to assist in your business since you want to be the first person to get a movie as soon as it is out.  This keeps you way ahead for your customers.  There are amazing online movie distributors who you will have to pay through PayPal or Skrill. They give you a download link once the payments are cleared. This could cost between Ksh. 800 to 1500 per movie, depending on the seller and exchange rate between the dollar and shilling.

Another cheaper way is to let someone else buy it first, so you can buy a copy from them for as little as Ksh. 50 and then you can ban it and sell as many copies as possible.  A fast PC will enable you to copy your movies onto DVDs. Storing and converting the movies to universal formats that can be played on most machines will also be aided by a powerful computer.

A movie goes for Ksh. 50 on a CD and on a flash disc it goes for Ksh. 30. This sounds like a good deal especially in a busy location where you can sell many movies in a day. If you sell lets say 50 movies in a day, you will make a whooping Ksh. 2500. And that is a good deal. If you do that in a month, it is Ksh. 75,000.

Fast internet is the most important tool because this will keep you up to date and assist in downloads. Songs are an added advantage for your customers. This means being online is a must. Internet will be applicable for watching YouTube leads.

This basically means if you can handle such working parameters, then this is the huge deal for you. It is a good venture and I trust you will enjoy your journey, because this means you will always be up to date with the latest movies and series. Good luck to you.
