Brenda Muntemba Zambia’s High Commissioner To Kenya Passes On

Brenda Muntemba who was Zambia’s High Commissioner to Kenya on Wednesday succumbed to injuries she had sustained after a road accident that occurred on February 26 near Lukenya along the Mombasa- Nairobi highway. The 49-year old diplomat was in the company of her fellow diplomat from Botswana Duke Lephoko when her car collided with an oncoming lorry. Lephoko’s vehicle was immediately behind Muntemba’s rammed into her car after hit thus leaving the car wrecked.

The high commissioner was admitted at Machakos Level 5 hospital before being flown to Nairobi the following day for specialized treatment. Reports indicate that she had sustained major injuries and has to undergo surgery to try and better the situation. Medical reports show that the doctors had a difficult time trying to stem internal bleeding that she had suffered before she was admitted in the ICU. Zambia mourns the death of a phenomenal woman who went beyond to effect change and be a force to reckon with in leadership and woman empowerment. Zambia not only mourns a leader but also a wife and mother.

Muntemba was a celebrated women’s advocate. She will be remembered for authoring literary material that focused on the empowerment of women and girls in society. Her book “Retrospect” goes to great lengths to encourage girls to reclaim their worth and reach higher heights as deserving members of the society.

Before being appointed to serve as High Commissioner to Kenya, Muntemba served as Southern Province Police Commissioner and Chief Program Officer at UNESCO in Zambia. She will be remembered as an inspiration to many women across the African continent.
