In a recent event with business leaders, Microsoft’s founder and CEO, Bill Gates, revealed his work ethics in his 20s. He worked on weekends and never took vacations in the early days of Microsoft.

This, according to Gates, was part of the sacrifice he had to pay for setting up a company and he thinks every startup founder should do so.

“It really is true that I didn’t believe in weekends; I didn’t believe in vacations,” he said. “I knew everybody’s license plate so I could tell you over the last month when their car had come and gone from the parking lot.”

In his admission, Gates went on to say that while he somewhat relaxed in his 30’s, the sacrifices he made in his 20s made him stand.

“I have a fairly hardcore view that there should be a very large sacrifice made during those, those early years, particularly if you’re trying to do some engineering things that you have to get the feasibility,” he added.
